Please note: We're the parent support organization for the SCS community, working alongside the school to provide services and community events. If you're looking to volunteer for school or classroom events specifically, please reach out to the SCS office or your child's teacher directly.
Volunteer Roles
Events Coordinator
Position summary: The Events Coordinator organizes and supports school events that bring families, students, staff, and the community together.
Key responsibilities: Plan and coordinate school events, fundraisers, and community activities. Create timelines, checklists, and schedules. Recruit and communicate with volunteers. Work with PAC board and school administration to follow community guidelines and planning. Coordinate supplies, budgets with the Treasurer, and vendors. Help ensure events are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
Skills and qualifications: Organized, friendly, and dependable. Strong communication and volunteer coordination skills. Able to manage multiple tasks and work with the school staff, volunteers and PAC board.
Social Media Manager
Position Summary: The Social Media Manager helps the Sherwood Charter School PAC keep families informed, connected, and involved by managing the PAC’s social media presence. This role highlights school activities, student celebrations, PAC meetings, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and community events in a positive and welcoming way.
Key responsibilities: Manage and maintain the PAC’s social media pages. Create and schedule posts about upcoming events, meetings, fundraisers, and activities. Share important information provided by the PAC and school administration. Promote opportunities for parents and families to volunteer and participate. Highlight student activities, achievements, and school-community events when appropriate. Create engaging posts, graphics, flyers, and announcements. Take or collect photos from PAC events with appropriate parent/guardian permission. Respond to general questions and comments or direct questions to the appropriate PAC representative. Help maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive online community. Keep social media information current, including dates, times, locations, and registration information.
Skills and qualifications: Organized and dependable. Comfortable using social media platforms. Creative and enjoys making engaging content.A good communicator. Respectful of student and family privacy. Able to work cooperatively with PAC members, school staff, and volunteers.
Fundraising Coordinator
Position Summary: The Fundraising Coordinator helps the Sherwood Charter School PAC plan, organize, and oversee fundraising activities that support students, classrooms, teachers, and school programs. The goal of this role is to create fun, successful, and family-friendly fundraising opportunities while building strong participation within the school community.
Key responsibilities: Develop and coordinate fundraising ideas and campaigns throughout the school year. Work with PAC leadership to establish fundraising goals and priorities. Create a fundraising calendar to help organize events and campaigns. Research and recommend fundraising opportunities that are appropriate for the school community. Coordinate with local businesses, vendors, and community partners when needed.
Skills and qualifications: Organized and dependable. Creative and comfortable coming up with new fundraising ideas. Comfortable communicating with families, local businesses and volunteers. Friendly, positive, and willing to build relationships with local businesses and community partners.
Volunteer Coordinator
Position Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator helps recruit, organize, and support parent and community volunteers who assist with PAC activities, school events, fundraisers, and programs. The goal of this position is to make volunteering easy, organized, welcoming, and rewarding for families.
Key responsibilities: Maintain a list of parents, guardians, and community members interested in volunteering. Recruit volunteers for PAC events, fundraisers, activities, and special projects. Create and manage volunteer sign-up sheets and schedules. Communicate volunteer opportunities clearly, including dates, times, locations, and responsibilities. Match volunteers with opportunities based on their interests, availability, and skills when possible. Send reminders to volunteers before scheduled activities. Help create a positive, inclusive, and supportive volunteer environment.
Skills and qualifications: Organized and dependable. Friendly, approachable, and encouraging. A strong communicator. Comfortable coordinating schedules and people.Good at following up and keeping track of details.Respectful of different family schedules, abilities, and circumstances. Library Liaison
Position Summary: Acts as a bridge between the school library, library volunteers, school administration and PAC. They communicate library needs to the PAC board, help coordinate volunteers for library activities, support fundraising efforts that benefit the library, and encourage student reading programs and family involvement.
Key responsibilities: Serve as the primary communication link between the school library, volunteers, and PAC. Communicate library needs, requests, and upcoming projects to the PAC board.Attend PAC meetings and provide updates on library activities and needs. Help identify opportunities for the PAC to support and enhance the school library. Assist with planning and coordinating library-related fundraisers and donation drives. Support school-wide reading programs, book fairs, literacy events, and reading challenges.
Skills and qualifications: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with the librarian, school staff, PAC members, volunteers, students, and families. Interest in books, literacy, reading, and supporting student learning. Creative and willing to help develop new library programs, events, and fundraising ideas. Willingness to learn the volunteer librarian role, train and help recruit a new librarian when the time comes
Welcome Committee Coordinator
Position Summary: The Welcome Committee Coordinator helps create a warm, inclusive, and welcoming environment for new and returning students and families at Sherwood Charter School. This position serves as a friendly point of contact for families, helping them feel connected to the school community and aware of PAC activities, events, and volunteer opportunities. The coordinator works closely with the PAC board, school staff, and volunteers to plan and support welcome activities throughout the school year. They help introduce families to the school community, encourage involvement, and make sure new families have opportunities to connect with other parents and caregivers.The goal of this role is to help every family feel welcomed, informed, valued, and connected to the Sherwood Charter School community.
Key responsibilities: Welcome new and returning families to the Sherwood Charter School community. Serve as a friendly point of contact for new families who have questions about PAC activities and school community events. Help new families learn about PAC programs, meetings, events, volunteer opportunities, and ways to get involved. Coordinate welcome activities for new families throughout the school year. Help organize a welcome table or information booth at back-to-school events, PAC events, and other school activities. Help recognize and welcome families throughout the school year, not just at the beginning of the school year. Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all families. Maintain appropriate confidentiality and respect family privacy when communicating with or assisting new families.
Skills and qualifications: Friendly, welcoming, and approachable personality. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Enjoys meeting new people and helping families feel comfortable and included. Ability to build positive relationships with parents, caregivers, students, school staff, PAC members, and volunteers. Organized and able to coordinate multiple activities and events. Reliable, dependable, and willing to follow through on responsibilities. Comfortable speaking with individuals and groups. Creative and enthusiastic about developing ideas that help build school community. A genuine commitment to building a strong, connected, and welcoming school community.
Classroom Representatives
Need for 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th Grades 2026/27 school year
Position Summary: The Classroom Representative serves as a communication and connection point between their classroom families and the Sherwood Charter School PAC. This volunteer helps keep families informed about PAC activities, events, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and other ways to participate in the school community. Classroom Representatives help create a strong sense of community within their classroom by encouraging family involvement, sharing important information, and helping families feel connected. They work closely with the PAC board, teachers, and other classroom representatives while respecting the teacher’s role and classroom boundaries. The goal of this role is to strengthen communication, encourage participation, and help build a supportive and connected community for each classroom.
Key responsibilities: Serve as the main PAC contact for families in the assigned classroom. Share PAC announcements, upcoming events, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and important information with classroom families. Encourage families to participate in PAC activities and school events. Help welcome new families and introduce them to other parents and caregivers in the classroom. Build a positive sense of community and connection among classroom families. Help communicate classroom-related questions, ideas, or concerns to the appropriate PAC representative or board member. Work with the classroom teacher when appropriate while respecting the teacher’s time, responsibilities, and communication preferences. Share feedback and suggestions from classroom families with the PAC. Maintain confidentiality and respect family privacy when handling questions or concerns. Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all classroom families.
Skills and qualifications: Friendly, approachable, and comfortable connecting with other families. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Organized and able to share information accurately and in a timely manner. Reliable and willing to follow through on commitments. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, PAC members, parents, caregivers, and volunteers. Positive attitude and enthusiasm for supporting the school community.
